The concept of speed and motion has driven man to develop technology to extraordinary heights. Transporting people and things and reaching places in a matter of time was always man's dream. Probing into the era of inventions and scientific discoveries in the 1800's, the one who invented the automobile contributed greatly in the portals of history as the one who made distances shorter and life more pleasurable.
Karl Benz, who invented the automobile in 1885, was a German mechanical engineer. Considered as the first true automobile, it has its chassis form a single unit and is a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine. It has four cycles and was a three-wheeled vehicle.
However, the history of automobiles proved to be versatile. Who invented the automobile is not attributed to a single person alone but developed its uniqueness and efficiency through various contributions and types by different inventors. Fellow Germans Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach who created the automobiles in a different design, created the first four wheeled, gasoline powered four-stroke engine. It was known as the "Cannstatt-Daimler."
But apparently, there are some speculations as to who invented the automobile. In 1769, French engineer and mechanic Nicolas Joseph Cugnot created the first self-propelled road vehicle. It was a military vehicle used to tow artillery by the French Army. The three-wheeled vehicle was steam-powered and has the speed of 2 ½ mph.
But as even as various sides of history claim that these three men each covet the title of who invented the automobile first, credit shall equally be given to these iconic men who invented the automobile in their own distinctive style and features. The road vehicles first created in 1769 by Cugnot and were powered by steam engines. Thus the distinction that Nicolas Joseph Cugnot built the very first automobile in 1769. Modern gasoline-powered engines were then created by Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler. It is through the inventions of Benz and Daimler which inspired the modern-day gasoline powered road vehicles and cars we use and know today.
Whether of speed, design and comfort, automobiles have become an integral part of ones life. With the invention of automobiles, distance can be crossed in a matter of moments, progress surged forward and life became a hustle and bustle of communication and motion.
Automobiles when it was invented were powered by steam engines as Cugnot first invented it. But then, foray into the engine world produced a different kind of automobiles powered by electricity. In Scotland, Robert Anderson who invented the automobile using electricity created the first electric carriage. It used an electric motor which used rechargeable batteries. However, this proved to be taxing because it has to stop frequently to charge its batteries.
But whatever it is written in the portals of history, the one who invented the automobile surely made its mark in this world. Throughout time and space, these men who have invented and built the automobiles, Nicoals Joseph Cugnot and Karl Benz, both deserve to be called great men who invented the automobile.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #1
No matter what anybody tells you, there is not yet a water powered car in production. That is an urban myth that reached its peak with Stanley Meyer who claimed that he drove one hundred miles using only four ounces of water (he was later convicted of fraud). The water powered engine hasn't even been invented yet. Scientists are still trying to figure out if it is even possible. |
Cars That Run on Water Tip #2
Many major car manufacturers are embracing the idea of the hydrogen car. BMW hopes to release a hydrogen car to the public by 2008 (or 2010 at the latest) and other manufacturers like Toyota are also making plans to release hydrogen car lines. Of course the debate over using hydrogen in cars is still raging and nothing has been settled yet. |
Cars That Run on Water Tip #3
While both a water based engine and a hydrogen engine will do wonders for fuel emissions and the environment, one of the major reasons people want them is to improve their fuel mileage. Of course, gas mileage can be improved right now. You can improve your gas mileage drastically just by driving sensibly and making sure your car is maintained properly. |
