Better Gas Mileage
Everybody wants to get better gas mileage. Here are some tips on how to do just that:
Drive sensibly. When you drive aggressively (rapid acceleration, rapid braking, speeding) it causes the car to
waste gas. In fact, aggressive driving can lower your gas mileage by more than thirty percent. Driving sensibly is
one of the best ways to make sure that you get better gas mileage.
Part of driving sensibly involves following the speed limit. Research has proven that better gas mileage is had
when drivers stick to speeds that are less than sixty miles per hour. Granted, every car has its own "best speed
for better gas mileage" but staying at sixty or under is still a good idea. Typically for every five miles an hour
that you drive over sixty miles per hour is the equivalent of paying around twenty cents more per gallon of gas
(though with gas prices on the rise, this ration could change).
Keep your car as light as possible. This means, basically that to get better gas mileage you will want to keep
all of the extra stuff off of and out of your car. Even an extra one hundred pounds could reduce your gas mileage
by two percent. This rule does affect smaller cars more severely than it does larger cars, so keep your cars weight
in mind when you are figuring out how much stuff to pack inside your car.
Turn the car off if you think you are going to be waiting somewhere for a while. Excessive idling is basically
the equivalent of driving at zero miles per hour and gets you zero miles to the gallon of gas. For some reason
people think that if the car is sitting in idle mode it isn't burning gas. This is a myth. Your car burns gasoline
for as long as your engine is running.
Utilize your cruise control if you have it. By braking and accelerating often, you reduce your gas mileage.
Staying at a steady speed will help you save gas, which will give you better gas mileage.
Make good use of the vehicle's overdrive gear. If you utilize your overdrive, the speed of your engine goes down
and will both save you gas and reduce the wear and tear of your engine.
Keep up with your car's maintenance. Just by fixing a car that has fallen out of tune can give it up to four
percent better gas mileage. If you have a serious problem with your car fixing it can give you better gas mileage
by as much as forty percent.
Make sure to check the air filters and replace them on a regular basis. When air filters get clogged it takes
more gas to move air effectively throughout the car's system. The air filter also keeps the inside of the engine
from getting damage. A clean air filter will give you better gas mileage by ten percent!
There are lots of ways to get better gas mileage, but the best ways are driving sensibly and taking care of your
car.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #1
No matter what anybody tells you, there is not yet a water powered car in production. That is an urban myth that
reached its peak with Stanley Meyer who claimed that he drove one hundred miles using only four ounces of water (he
was later convicted of fraud). The water powered engine hasn't even been invented yet. Scientists are still trying
to figure out if it is even possible.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #2
Many major car manufacturers are embracing the idea of the hydrogen car. BMW hopes to release a hydrogen car to
the public by 2008 (or 2010 at the latest) and other manufacturers like Toyota are also making plans to release
hydrogen car lines. Of course the debate over using hydrogen in cars is still raging and nothing has been settled
yet.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #3
While both a water based engine and a hydrogen engine will do wonders for fuel emissions and the environment,
one of the major reasons people want them is to improve their fuel mileage. Of course, gas mileage can be improved
right now. You can improve your gas mileage drastically just by driving sensibly and making sure your car is
maintained properly.
