Its combined fuel economy rating is at 46 mpg making it on top of the best mileage cars according to recent surveys.
These numbers were an impressive improvement from the previous estimates for this car model. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had originally come out with a fuel economy rate of 60 mpg for city driving, 55 mpg on the highway. Toyota Prius also had an estimated combined fuel economy rating of 51 mpg.
Honda Civic
Another model that is always on top of the list for the best mileage cars is the Honda Civic. The 2008 Hybrid comes with a 1.3 liter, four-cylinder engine. According to recent EPA estimates, this model has a fuel economy rating of 40 MPG when driven through the city and 45 mpg on the highway. It became one of the best mileage cars in the market because it also has a combined fuel economy rating of 42 mpg which is a bit better than the latest offering for Toyota Prius.
Based on the old EPA estimates for Honda Civic which are at 49 mpg for the city, 50 mpg for the highway and 51 mpg combined, the model has been touted as consistently improving its features for fuel economy. It has always been considered on of the best mileage cars due to this consistency.

These two models have just come out from EPA's roster as the champions among the best mileage cars. If you're wondering about which one to choose, both actually have their own good and bad points depending on the type of car that you're looking for.
