The Prohibitive Cost of Hydrogen Car Prices

Right now, there are quite a few problems associated with hydrogen cars. One is the price and the other is finding the hydrogen to fuel the car. There is a cheaper alternative than the high hydrogen car prices and they are conversion kits that enable a knowledgeable owner to convert their car to hydrogen.
The conversion kit for a Hummer is at minimum $60,000. This is often the price of 2 cars for the average consumer. BMW has a luxury hydrogen car they are designing and the price for that is said to be about a million dollars. The Shelby pick-up is said to be priced at around $99,995, more than most of us make in a single year working. The Shelby Cobra is even more expensive with a price tag of around $150,000.
Hydrogen car prices will stay high for the first few years of their availability as with any technological advanced product. But you can be sure as the kinks are worked out and the supply versus demand is met hydrogen car prices will go down just as the price for hybrid cars have lessened considerably.
The Intergalactic Hydrogen Company
Intergalactic Hydrogen is a company that converts cars like the Hummer for a price. For some it may be a small price to pay for a vehicle that runs on sustainable energy. For most though, the hydrogen car prices along with conversion kits are still out of their reach. There are two ways that a hydrogen vehicle works. One is with a hydrogen fuel cell and the other is an internal engine that has been modified. Another start up company based in Los Angeles has filled two hydrogen orders for the Cobra and they say delivery takes about six months.
Why Are Hydrogen Car Prices so High?
One of the reasons for high hydrogen car prices is the cost of the tank. It is said that every tank built costs about $4,000. It also takes $1,000 for a special valve for fuel shutoff to be installed. The price can be compared with a regular gasoline powered Cobra that starts at $100,000 and the hydrogen model at $150,000. Hydrogen car prices are high and only those that have the ways and means can afford them at present.
What the Future Holds for Hydrogen Car Prices
Many of the most reputable car manufacturers are aiming for hydrogen car prices to be at a more reasonable level within the next ten years. Toyota is getting on the hydrogen band wagon as is Ford and Honda. As the technology is perfected, the average Joe will see hydrogen car prices become more affordable and can then decide if this alternative fuel car will be right and cost effective for their needs.
Keep your eyes open for any new developments in the field of sustainable energy vehicles and keep yourself informed and updated for what the most fuel efficient cars are available at a price you and your family can well afford in the meantime.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #1
No matter what anybody tells you, there is not yet a water powered car in production. That is an urban myth that reached its peak with Stanley Meyer who claimed that he drove one hundred miles using only four ounces of water (he was later convicted of fraud). The water powered engine hasn't even been invented yet. Scientists are still trying to figure out if it is even possible. |
Cars That Run on Water Tip #2
Many major car manufacturers are embracing the idea of the hydrogen car. BMW hopes to release a hydrogen car to the public by 2008 (or 2010 at the latest) and other manufacturers like Toyota are also making plans to release hydrogen car lines. Of course the debate over using hydrogen in cars is still raging and nothing has been settled yet. |
Cars That Run on Water Tip #3
While both a water based engine and a hydrogen engine will do wonders for fuel emissions and the environment, one of the major reasons people want them is to improve their fuel mileage. Of course, gas mileage can be improved right now. You can improve your gas mileage drastically just by driving sensibly and making sure your car is maintained properly. |
