Disadvantages of Hybrid Cars

Going green is the latest rage sweeping the country. One way to do this is purchase a hybrid car. It helps to understand exactly what a hybrid car is. Basically it is a vehicle created to give drivers the ability to have an economical and environmental responsibility when driving from one point to another. Main manufacturing companies of hybrids include Honda, Toyota, Lexus and Ford.

As opposed to traditional vehicles that run on gasoline, hybrid cars operate on electricity and fuel alternates that include corn oil. The primary function is to minimize air pollutants and conserve natural resources. In addition, these vehicles are aero dynamical and loaded with technological gadgets. Even so, there are a few drawbacks to the hybrid vehicle industry.

The first drawback is pollution. The premise of hybrid cars is to reduce the amount of air pollution being created. Production of these vehicles emits a number of pollutants into the environment in the mean time. This is mainly in factories emitting toxic streams of air into the environment during production assembly.

Another drawback to hybrid cars is sound. These cars notably are much quieter than their gasoline neighbours. This can make it hard for someone to hear a hybrid car coming in its general direction. Often times, a driver may not know a hybrid is in the area until it is too late.

Next is the weight and acceleration factor. Hybrids are heavier than normal cars due to the size of the battery that must be housed inside the engine in order for the car to run. This heavier weight directly affects acceleration. Added weight means the car can not accelerate as fast as a driver may like. This can result in having to take twice as long to reach a destination point. For drivers who do not like to go fast in the first place, a hybrid car can seem like a dream.

Be cautioned that hybrids do exert a certain level of danger in the event an accident occurs. Given that the vehicles run on electric circuits, there is the possibility that exposed wires will occur in any damaged area of the hybrid. This increases the risk of electrical shock or other electrical injury should an accident occur.

Price is perhaps the biggest drawback to hybrid car ownership. Price tags on these cars run almost twice what the price tag on a normal gasoline car does. Economical uncertainty of today does not lessen the inability for many to afford that higher price tag on a hybrid. Registration fees vary by state with many being on the high side. Maintenance does not come cheap as well. This is a direct result of the added technology under the hood. A regular mechanic can not do repairs on a hybrid car. It must be taken to a specialty shop which quickly adds up.

For these reasons, a potential hybrid car owner needs to ensure that there are enough funds in a bank account to accommodate for the added financial responsibility of owning such a car.

Cars That Run on Water Tip #1

No matter what anybody tells you, there is not yet a water powered car in production. That is an urban myth that reached its peak with Stanley Meyer who claimed that he drove one hundred miles using only four ounces of water (he was later convicted of fraud). The water powered engine hasn't even been invented yet. Scientists are still trying to figure out if it is even possible.

Cars That Run on Water Tip #2

Many major car manufacturers are embracing the idea of the hydrogen car. BMW hopes to release a hydrogen car to the public by 2008 (or 2010 at the latest) and other manufacturers like Toyota are also making plans to release hydrogen car lines. Of course the debate over using hydrogen in cars is still raging and nothing has been settled yet.

Cars That Run on Water Tip #3

While both a water based engine and a hydrogen engine will do wonders for fuel emissions and the environment, one of the major reasons people want them is to improve their fuel mileage. Of course, gas mileage can be improved right now. You can improve your gas mileage drastically just by driving sensibly and making sure your car is maintained properly.
