In speeds above 40 mph the gas motor will kick in to give the vehicle more power than when it is in electric mode.

An Advantage to Hybrid Cars over Solely Electrically Run Vehicles

An electrically run motor that runs solely on electrical power can die out in the middle of an errand or trip. If the battery is low on power, the owner must find an electrical outlet in order to power up the battery to continue on his or her way. With hybrid cars, when the battery is running low on power, the gasoline motor will kick in and keep the driver on their route. No need for a tow truck or the cost involved when driving hybrid cars as opposed to solely electrical run cars.

As with any new technology first introduced, hybrid cars were expensive to purchase. These days many of the reputable car manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan and Honda have designed hybrid cars that are simpler to care for at a much lower price than when they were first put on the market. You can easily find a number of hybrid cars that are well under $30,000 at this point and with a price that is more affordable, many more people will be deciding that hybrid cars are the way for them to go.

As they are cost conscious now and well within the grasp of the average consumer, purchasing one instead of the old standard gasoline models will afford you with government tax incentives along with a pocket that is fatter when you visit your local filling station.
